Manchester United’s reported plan to sign Alvaro Carreras and then sell him to Real Madrid may not be possible due to FIFA’s regulations on bridge transfers. Real Madrid wants to avoid paying Carreras’ release clause at Benfica but FIFA rules prohibit consecutive transfers of the same player within 16 weeks. Benfica also plans to renew Carreras’ contract, making the transfer even more difficult.
