Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposed a new Layer-2 rollup security framework for faster finality and stronger trust guarantees. The roadmap includes a hybrid-proof architecture combining zero-knowledge proofs, optimistic rollups, and trusted execution environments. The focus is on advancing rollups to Stage 2, with plans for upgrades like Pectra and Fusaka to expand data availability. The proposal aims to achieve trustless finality by combining ZK and OP systems with a TEE. Buterin also highlighted the need for a standardized proof aggregation layer to reduce gas costs. This approach could lead to fully trustless Ethereum rollups with instant finality.
