Crypto companies are highly affected by audio and video deepfake frauds in 2024, with over half reporting incidents in a recent survey by forensic services firm Regula. The survey of 575 businesses in seven industries showed that crypto businesses are tied with law enforcement as the most affected by audio deepfake fraud, and have the third-highest occurrences of video deepfakes. The average value lost to deepfake frauds across sectors is $450,000, with crypto companies reporting an average loss of $440,116. Over 50% of businesses in all sectors view deepfake fraud as a moderate to significant threat, with the crypto sector particularly concerned about deepfake video scams. This is likely due to the increase in video deepfake scams in 2024, which have resulted in significant financial losses for some individuals and organizations.
