Ethereum Hegotá plan gets 4 priorities from Ethlabs

Ethlabs, an Ethereum research group, has advised core developers to prioritize censorship resistance, faster blocks, native account abstraction, and Layer 1 scaling for Hegotá, Ethereum’s upcoming upgrade after Glamsterdam. FOCIL and Quick Slots are top priorities, with Frame Transactions advancing to be considered for inclusion officially. Ethlabs also backs other proposals to support higher gas limits and constrain payload growth. Developers must submit rankings by September 10 for further narrowing of proposals. Ethlabs is an independent nonprofit R&D lab focused on Ethereum and ETH. The Hegotá paper published by Ethlabs on August 16 is a recommendation, not an official Ethereum governance decision. The official Hegotá meta lists FOCIL as the only scheduled feature for inclusion, with Frame Transactions considered for inclusion among others. Ethlabs’ priorities for Hegotá include FOCIL, faster slots, and Frame Transactions. FOCIL aims to make it harder for specialized block builders to omit valid transactions, while Quick Slots proposes reducing Ethereum’s slot time. Frame Transactions enable flexible authentication, sponsored transactions, batching, and alternative signature systems. Data repricing proposals aim to increase Ethereum’s capacity for continued Layer 1 scaling. Ethlabs recommends EIP-8131 and EIP-8279 for this purpose. Hegotá is scheduled for 2027 after Glamsterdam, with client teams set to submit rankings by September 10 to decide on proposals for implementation and testing. Ethlabs has declined to rank EIP-8363, which proposes changing issuance by burning a rising share of validator rewards. The group believes monetary policy should receive broader community debate. Ethlabs’ priorities represent one R&D group’s preferred direction for Hegotá, not the finalized upgrade package for Ethereum.
