Jack Dorsey’s decentralized messaging app Bitchat has seen increased usage in Uganda ahead of the 2026 general election. Opposition leader Bobi Wine is urging locals to use the app to bypass potential internet shutdowns by the government. Bitchat uses Bluetooth mesh networks to allow secure communication without internet access.
